I mean I think that eighteen months into this current situation, my brain is about fried for concentration as well as life being really quite busy and stressful. And you can see it in what I’m reading and how much of it. Gosh I miss the beforetimes.

Bonus picture: my orchid, in flower. A hopeful sign.

A fairly steady month in reading. I’ve fallen behind on adding reviews to my goodreads so my first target for October is to catch up with that. And my next is to try and read some more books from the to read shelf. I’ve done quite well on the NetGalley front this month, so I want to keep that going, but also try and make some progress towards getting that bookcase spread in my journal filled up…

Is my bonus picture another one from my holiday? Why yes. And I’m not sorry about it. It’s the most exciting thing I’ve done in months!

Ebooks: 24

Library books: 2 (all ebooks)

Non-fiction books: 8

Favourite book this month: If we’re not including Gaudy Night which I read once and listened to on audio twice in August, then it’s Battle Royal

Most read author: George Bellairs -an astonishing 7 Inspector Littlejohn books, because when I make something I can colour in I really commit.

Books bought: 5, of which 3 were preorders

Books read in 2021: 265

Books on the Goodreads to-read shelf (I don’t have copies of all of these!): 608

So basically this was the month of murder mysteries, and also one where I want a massive binge of one series. Oh and the (latest) Amelia Peabody re-read is still going, even as I’m still trying to hunt down the Barbara Rosenblatt versions of the final few books in audio, which seem to be impossible to come by in the UK. Very frustrating.

Bonus photo is the updated Littlejohn list after this month’s binge!

*Includes some short stories/novellas/comics/graphic novels (7 this month – six Mindy Kaling essays and the Gordon Corera Kindle single)

Favourite book this month: Tough – because I liked a lot of books this month – a lot of which I haven’t told you about yet-  but maybe The Feast or Malibu Rising or Summer Seekers.

Most read author: Dorothy L Sayers – two audiobooks

Books bought: Eight, plus a few more preorders, and a few preorders arriving too.

Books read in 2021: 202

Books on the Goodreads to-read shelf (I don’t have copies of all of these!): 604

A really quite summery month in reading – which fitted some of the weather. I liked a lot of it too, so more coming up on some of the books that I’ve read in the next couple of weeks. May July bring more of the same

Bonus picture: summer tree cover in the park. Sadly no blue sky above them…

Ebooks: 4

Library books: 8 (all ebooks)

Audiobooks: 6

Non-fiction books: 4

Favourite book this month: Early Morning Riser or Love at First

Most read author: Fairly tight between Laurie R King (Two full length novels and a novella finished and a third novel started), Georgette Heyer (three audiobooks) and Elizabeth Peters (two audiobooks, but they’re longer than the Heyers are!)

Books bought: 16, I think, but really I’m still not really counting. I’m just being nice to myself.

Books read in 2021: 169

Books on the Goodreads to-read shelf (I don’t have copies of all of these!): 604

The Georgette Heyer audiobook quest continues, and the Amelia Peabody fixation continues. As mentioned several times this week already, I’m still not good with books that aren’t in a genre where I know it’s going to work out in the end, so rereading old favourites makes total sense. And I only count the ones I’ve reread from cover to cover, not the ones where I just pick them up and dip into my favourite bits.

Bonus picture: Some flowers from my garden, in a border that definitely needs weeding…

Favourite book this month: Dial A for Aunties by Jessie Q Sutanto

Most read author: Georgette Heyer with a bunch of audiobooks or Rosie Danan with two new reads

Books bought: about 9

Books read in 2021: 134

Books on the Goodreads to-read shelf (I don’t have copies of all of these!): 602

A fairly steady month in reading in the end – Irritatingly the Duncan MacMaster Fahrenheit Zine isn’t in goodreads – even though the Jo Perry equivalent was, so I’m going to have to figure out a way of counting that in future months when I’ve forgotten it’s not in the raw goodreads count. Wish me luck with that! Probably not as much progress on the NetGalley list as I should have, but there’s been a lot going on in the world and my brain has been a little fried. Here’s hoping May is better.

Bonus picture: Some bluebells in the woods the other weekend.

Books bought: 9 I think

Books read in 2021: 100

Books on the Goodreads to-read shelf (I don’t have copies of all of these!): 601

I’m not even sure I have anything witty or interesting to say this month – all I’ve done is read, run around the park and work… and that’s been the story of the last year!

There was so much going on behind the scenes in February. I can’t even explain how much. But the key point is that at least February is short and I made it out the otherside and into March… hmmmm

NetGalley books read: 4

Favourite book this month: I mean I read He Shall Thunder in the Sky twice. And the Falcon at the Portal too, but of the stuff I hadn’t read before, it’s hard. Maybe The House in the Cerulean Sea.

Most read author: Elizabeth Peters by a country mile. 3000+ pages, plus more than a dozen hours of audiobook time…

Books bought: I mean I think 8 new ones, plus ebooks of a couple of Amelia Peabody books that I borrowed from the library first time out

Books read in 2021: 31

Books on the Goodreads to-read shelf (I don’t have copies of all of these!): 595

I mean basically lets just call it the month of the Peabody-Emersons. Because so much of my reading this month was from that series – and it was all I wanted to read for long periods. And I’m not even sorry about it.

Bonus picture: The bonus picture this month is another snowy picture from the start of last week, and was taken by my dad. Some people would say that it’s Christmassy and Not Right for January, but I just think it looks so quintessentially British countryside in winter that I just had to use it.
