Sunday thought

This photo is from this time a year ago, when I was off on holiday and also recovering from shingles. I’m not going to subject you to a picture of me at my worst (which was basically a year ago on Wednesday just gone) but suffice it to say that it was a really rubbish time for me personally and professionally.

There have been a lot of challenges over the last year, but standing here at the moment I’m pretty proud of myself for finding a way through and out the other side. I remember how beaten down I was this time last year and I’m pretty sure I’m in a better place now. I don’t often talk about the various people in my life, but a lot of the fact that I’m happier now is down to them and their support in various ways, so today I want to say thank you to them for all they do for me and for believing in me – often more than I do myself!

Magpie Murders redux

It’s Easter weekend everyone and if you’re looking for something to watch – and in the UK – the Magpie Murders is being shown on TV at last. The second episode is on this evening but the whole series is on the iPlayer already. I hadn’t realised this was happening until I saw a trailer for it before Match of the Day last weekend, so apologies for the slightly late notice. I wrote about the adaptation of Anthony Horowitz’s book last year when it was on BritBox – you can read that review here.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you reading this who celebrate the occasion. Over here, I’m waiting for the avalanche of special offer deals to hit my inbox and wondering if I’ll be able to figure out which ones are genuine deals, and which ones are… not. Anyway, it’s all got me to thinking about Thanksgiving four years ago – which would also have been my Grandpa’s 95 birthday – when I was in the US with work and spent Thanksgiving wandering around the Air and Space Museum’s Annexe in Virginia. A truly excellent day and one I know Gramps would have really, really enjoyed. He would have been 99 earlier this week, and we’ve already started thinking about what we might do to mark his 100th next year. Have a wonderful day everyone – where ever you are – and I hope you have some time with your families coming soon.

I have far too many chins in all the photos of me from my day out, and I’m not going to spend hours airbrushing me into something I like more, so here’s the space shuttle. It was astonishing to see it in the flesh.
