Heatwave

It’s hotter than Britain has any right to be and my brain has packed up and gone home to try and get cool somewhere. It’s impossible to capture in a photograph how hot it feels – and I wouldn’t subject you to my shiny red faced sweaty look either. I don’t want that committed to the internet. These were taking just after 7am when the temperature was already nearly 30. I haven’t been this hot since I was in Ghana. And the hotel in Accra had air conditioning, which my house definitely doesn’t. Normal service will be resumed when the temperature drops a bit…

Happy World Cup!

No series post today! The World Cup got underway last night and I think you should spend your Friday preparing yourself for the many four match days and the time zone issues that the West Coast of the US presents with the two overnight kickoff times which are 0200 and 0500 here in the UK! I’m marking it with a (vintage but not that vintage) picture of me in my euro 2012 staff shirt which has a bookish link: I got my first kindle so I would have enough reading material for a month in Warsaw without taking a second suitcase full of books…

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2025 everyone. I don’t know how all of your 2024s were in the non-reading sense, but mine was distinctly mixed. There were some very definite highs – with big exciting moments in the family – but also quite a lot of funerals too. So here’s to the new year being filled with good things and happiness as well as good books to read. So far it’s started with a massive rain storm, so maybe it’s trying to wash the slate clean for a fresh start?!

Mega Sport Weekend

I promise normal service will return soon, but my brain is still recovering from Thursday night, my sleep is out of whack. England needed penalties to get through to the semi finals of EURO 2024 last night and it’s the British Grand Prix just down the road from me today. And that’s not even mentioning the MotoGP, the Tour de France and Wimbledon. Plus the fact that I have to run around the park today because I’m doing the Race for Life next weekend. Back tomorrow…
