Verity Reads Books (lots of them)
In which our heroine attempts to tame the to-read pile

I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend and that your Sunday is as sunny as mine!

Have an amazing day everyone! I shall mostly be eating Easter eggs and reading books…

Welcome to 2025 everyone. I don’t know how all of your 2024s were in the non-reading sense, but mine was distinctly mixed. There were some very definite highs – with big exciting moments in the family – but also quite a lot of funerals too. So here’s to the new year being filled with good things and happiness as well as good books to read. So far it’s started with a massive rain storm, so maybe it’s trying to wash the slate clean for a fresh start?!

I hope you have time to relax today and plenty of leftovers. And a puzzle or a game. As you can see, I d finished the Miss Marple jigsaw already, so I might have to start on another one…

If you’re celebrating, I hope you have a good one. If you’re not celebrating, I hope you have a good day. And if you’re not celebrating because you’re working, thank you for what you’re doing so that other people don’t have to!

Back next week. I promise.

I promise normal service will return soon, but my brain is still recovering from Thursday night, my sleep is out of whack. England needed penalties to get through to the semi finals of EURO 2024 last night and it’s the British Grand Prix just down the road from me today. And that’s not even mentioning the MotoGP, the Tour de France and Wimbledon. Plus the fact that I have to run around the park today because I’m doing the Race for Life next weekend. Back tomorrow…

Wet and rainy Westminster at 6.30 this morning on my way home to bed. Normal service will be resumed when I’m back on normal time!

Normal service will be resumed after the general election in the UK. I’m likely to be asleep as this publishes because I’m working the overnight tonight to cover the results…

I mean this is slightly late because it was early May that I started this endeavour, and this is the very last day of May, but it’s still May so it still counts. Anyway, it’s been a decade since I started this blog – can you believe it? I can’t for sure. Anyway, the to-read pile that I started this blog to try and guilt myself into reducing remains enormous, but I don’t think there is anything left on it that was still there at the start so that’s something.
It’s quite a small something because the pile has graduated from the little shelves and a stack hiding behind the sofa to a big (if narrow) Billy bookcase and another (little) stack in front of it, but the main thing is that I’ve had a blast writing about all the things I’ve read, and I’m still enjoying it as well. Thank you for reading – I’m off to have a small celebration.
Maybe I should buy a book to mark the occasion?
