No Book of the Week!

I’m sorry! Too much skating, not enough reading . I’ve got three things part finished but nothing to write about today so I’m giving myself a pass this week. In the meantime, here are some of my favourite performances from last week that might have gone under the radar if you only watched the final groups of the competition:

Josefin Taljegard from Sweden absolutely nailing her skate to It’s All Coming Back To Me Now, skating second in the women’s free programme (after the first person fell five times) and getting a standing ovation from the crowd for her performance, musicality and emotion. And we didn’t give many ovations.

We’ve had a lot of Moulin Rouge routines over the year but nothing quite like The Finns and their slightly unhinged but very entertaining take on it (that’s them in the picture at the top taking their bow).

And finally, my prediction for a potential viral moment at the Olympics: if Tomas Llorenc can land the triple axel at the start of this Minions programme for in Milan it will take the roof off.

Enjoy!

Give me your Mystery recommendations!

I am now up to date on a lot of my regular series, and others have wrapped themselves up – so I’m in the market for some more murder mystery recommendations! I’m particularly enjoying series written in or set in the early 1990s – see the Mitchell and Markby re-read, Goldy Schulz and similar – and I’d love more historicals set in times that aren’t between the wars. So please to let me know in the comments if you have anything!

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2025 everyone. I don’t know how all of your 2024s were in the non-reading sense, but mine was distinctly mixed. There were some very definite highs – with big exciting moments in the family – but also quite a lot of funerals too. So here’s to the new year being filled with good things and happiness as well as good books to read. So far it’s started with a massive rain storm, so maybe it’s trying to wash the slate clean for a fresh start?!

Not a Book: Kiss Me Kate in Cinemas

You all know I saw this three times at the Barbican this summer, so it’s my duty to report that they recorded the revival of Kiss Me, Kate and it’s coming to cinemas from today (17th November) and I am in fact going to see it, in my local indie today because a) I loved it and b) I want to see how it comes across on screen. It’s one of those event-cinema releases, so the dates may vary (the cinema where I’m seeing it is only showing it twice a couple of days apart at the moment) and you may need to look at either an indie or a larger multiplex cinema, but hopefully if you want to see it you’ll be able to find it.

Mega Sport Weekend

I promise normal service will return soon, but my brain is still recovering from Thursday night, my sleep is out of whack. England needed penalties to get through to the semi finals of EURO 2024 last night and it’s the British Grand Prix just down the road from me today. And that’s not even mentioning the MotoGP, the Tour de France and Wimbledon. Plus the fact that I have to run around the park today because I’m doing the Race for Life next weekend. Back tomorrow…
