This week is one of the biggest release weeks of what has already been a bumper autumn release season with the new Sarah J Maas book. I’m not an SJM reader, but I know a lot of people who are and who have been very excited waiting for this one. And in case you doubted how huge this is, it’s reported that the first print run for this is four million copies. Million. This is the sixth in the A Court of Thorn and Roses series, which started back in 2015, which really was a totally different time in books. And some of the things from that era have carried over to this – I’ve seen midnight launch events (including at Gower Street) which isn’t a thing that we get any more. The seventh in the series is out at the end of January, so I look forward to seeing whether the excitement from this one carries over to that, because in the end the “proper” reviews don’t matter – it’s the reaction of the fans and readers that does for this one.
At least all of the midnight launch parties were able to go ahead for this one unlike the ones that had to be cancelled for the Rebecca Yarros release. It is nice to see a huge buzz around new releases.
It is – I was in a bookshop Wednesday afternoon and they’d clearly had loads of copies and been doing events for it – it felt a bit like they were still recovering!
